The municipality of Niterói (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) has announced that it plans to launch a tender process for a PPP urban project to rehabilitate the city center.
In January 2013 three companies submitted expressions of interest for conducting the feasibility studies, Construtora Norberto Odebrecht Brasil S.A., Construtora Andrade Gutierrez S.A. and Construtora OAS S.A..
Niterói's Conselho Gestor do Programa de Parcerias Público-Privadas approved the project in March 2013. Later, the three companies elaborated the feasibility studies after having 90 days to do so.
Now the city of Niteroí plans to conduct a public consultation of the PPP project. The project could be structured similarly to the Porto Maravilha PPP project in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
The project involves the rehabilitation, operation and maintenance of the Niterói's downtown encompassing the neighborhoods of Gragoatá and Ponta da Areia, as well as the surroundings areas of influence.
Similar strategies are currently being developed in the cities of São Paulo, Salvador, Fortaleza, Belo Horizonte and São Bernardo do Campo.
