The World Bank has announced that it has approved the financing package for the Cameroon-Chad Transport Corridor project.
The project involves the development and improvement of road and rail networks from the Port of Douala (in Cameroon) to N’Djamena (in Chad). The project scope also includes rehabilitation, modernization and maintenance of a 595-kilometer road in Chad and signaling systems.
The International Development Association (IDA) will support the corridor project with US$538 million. It combines investments in rail and road infrastructure, with interventions on trade facilitation to improve the flow of people, goods, and services along the multimodal Douala-N'Djamena corridor—that concentrate 35 percent of the GDP for both countries, 20 percent of Chad’s population, and 35 percent of Cameroon’s population.
