The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) has announced the work progress on the Magdalena Trunks 1 and 2 corridor project in Colombia.
The Magdalena Trunk 1 project, spanning 260 km, carries an investment of US$4.49 billion, while the Magdalena Trunk 2 project, covering 268 km, has a budget of US$4.34 billion. In Magdalena Trunk 1, approximately 125.85 km of the total route (259.6 km) have undergone interventions due to damage. These interventions included repairing asphalt layers of varying thicknesses, fine-tuning road sections, addressing cracks, fixing central dividers, improving road margins, and enhancing horizontal and vertical signaling along the corridor. For Magdalena Trunk 2, priority maintenance activities involved technical patching, sealing cracks, updating vertical signage, maintaining horizontal markings, replacing reflective studs, upgrading metal defenses, general road cleaning, shoulder and margin cleaning, drainage work cleaning, spraying, and pruning.
Currently, these projects are in the Preoperational Stage, which spans 59 months and is planned in two phases. The first phase, the Preconstruction Phase, lasts for 12 months from the commencement document date. It encompasses maintaining and operating the roads entrusted to the Concessionaire, preparing layout and design studies for functional units, and obtaining the necessary environmental permits and licenses to initiate construction. Construction is slated to commence on December 1, 2023, with an expected duration of 47 months for completion.
