Spanish construction group Rubau and Mexican civil engineer VISE have won a EUR 300 million (USD 331 million) public-private partnership contract to build and maintain a toll road between the towns of Silao and San Miguel de Allende in Guanajuato, Mexico.
The concession is granted for 30 years to carry out the design, construction, operation, exploitation, preservation, and maintenance of this infrastructure. The work must be completed within the next 24 months. This contract also includes the concession for the reconstruction, operation, exploitation, preservation, and maintenance of the already existing highway that links Silao with Guanajuato.
Of the total investment amount, EUR 27 million (US$ 29.7 million) will be allocated to relocate the toll area and expand the lanes from the current five to eight. It will facilitate traffic between the two towns, which are about 86 km apart, and will also help boost and connect the Independence Valley region with the Bajío International Airport, the entire western part of the state (León and its surroundings), and the central-western part of the country.
