The Eiffage Group has announced that a consortium formed of Eiffage, Sarpi Veolia and CEMEX has been awarded the GEME contract by the Société du Grand Paris to manage and use the material excavated during the construction of Line 15 East as part of the Grand Paris Express project in France.
Under an 84-month contract worth EUR200 million (US$196 million), the consortium will be responsible for the delivery, evaluation, processing, storage, transportation and reuse or disposal of 7.5 million tons of materials that will be recovered during the work. 99% of the excavated soil can be reused after passing through the processing channels. The consortium will transport 60% of the extracted material by the river to reduce the carbon footprint of the project, 5% of project hours will be dedicated to social employment plans and over 20% of services will be subcontracted to local SMEs.
Grand Paris Express project involves the construction of four new lines for the Paris Métro, the extensions of Line 15 East, which in the future will connect the Saint-Denis Pleyel station with the Champigny Center station and Line 14 in France.
