The Ministry of Transport & Road Safety and project promoter Trans Israel have selected the Group Three consortium of Alstom, Electra and Minrav for a PPP contract to finance, design and construct the railway systems and rolling stock for the Nofit Light Rail line in Israel.

The 41 km inter-urban tram-train line will connect Haifa to Nof HaGalil and Nazareth, featuring 20 stations, including park-and-ride facilities. During peak hours, services will operate every 4 minutes, reaching speeds up to 100 km/h. The anticipated daily ridership is approximately 100,000 passengers.

The recently announced contract encompasses various elements such as track, signaling, communications, 1.5 kV DC electrification, ticketing and passenger information systems, station construction, depot establishment, control center setup, and the procurement of around 30 light rail vehicles (LRVs). The contract also includes a 25-year commitment to operation and maintenance. The primary construction phase is expected to commence next year and span four years.
