Autostrada Pedemontana Lombarda has selected a consortium led by Webuild to design and build two sections of the Pedemontana Lombarda Highway PPP project in northern Italy.
The awarded contract is worth EUR1.26 billion (US$1.5 billion), and Webuild owns 70% of the contract, while Pizzarotti 30%. The two sections will have the technology to facilitate self-driving (autonomous) vehicles and are the following:
In addition, these sections will alert its users about accidents and road works, transmit speed limits as well as collect traffic data. The project is estimated to create 18,400 jobs. The road is planned to be completed by 2026 for Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina.
