The state of Amapá has held the auction for the concession of sanitation services in the area during a period of 35 years in Brazil.
The Marco Zero Consortium, led by Equatorial Energia (80%) and SAM Ambiental e Engenharia (20%), offered the highest value for the concession- BRL930 million (US$179 million), in addition to providing a 20% discount on the water tariff for users. In total, six consortiums have participated in the auction.
The consortium will be responsible for the operation of the basic sanitation services in the state for a period of 35 years, with planned investments of around BRL3 billion (US$577.5 million). One of the goals is to reduce the water loss rate, which exceeds now 70%. Water supply and sewage collection will be available to 738,000 inhabitants in the 16 municipalities of the Amapá state.
