The Nevada Department of Transportation has announced the winner of the Neon road public-private partnership (PPP) project in Nevada, USA.
The winner is Kiewit Infrastructure West Co., which proposed a US$559.4 million bid. The company will be responsible for the design and construction of the project, a 3.7-mile expansion of Interstate 15 between Sahara Avenue and the Spaghetti Bowl Interchange in downtown Las Vegas. The NEON project will connect US Highway 95 auto lanes with I-15 high-speed train lanes via a flyover. The project includes direct-access car ramps, a new interchange called "Neon Gate" and plans to upgrade the Charleston Boulevard interchange and extend the Grand Central Parkway over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. Road improvements will reduce travel delays by 28%, resulting in US$110 million in annual savings.
Kiewit included a schedule that would see the work completed 300 days faster. Thanks to this, the company can earn up to US$20 million for early termination. The project will create approximately 4,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs in Nevada.
