The Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA) has scheduled a meeting to pursue a PPP financial model for the redevelopment of Henry E. Rohlsen Airport (HERA) and the Cyril E. King Airport (CEKA) in the Virgin Islands, USA.
The scope of the projects involves the modernization and upgradation of HERA and CEKA airports. The airports are expanded in four phases, the first phase of the HERA Terminal project was completed in December 2021, which entailed the expansion of the domestic passenger lounge. The construction of a parking and transportation center at CEKA airport has already been started. The center will house all taxi and rental car operations and provide more than 570 parking spaces for travelers.
The U.S. Economic Development Administration (USEDA) is providing a US$7 million fund for the HERA project whereas the CEKA terminal received a US$20 million grant. VIPA is seeking a private partner to finance, design, build, operate and maintain the airports. The RFP is expected to be issued before the end of this year.
