Vinci has announced the beginning of the construction work for the 128 MW Hydroelectric project near Kédougou, Senegal.
The EUR388 million (US$419.9 million) contract was signed between Vinci and the Gambia River Basin Development Organisation in December 2020. The preparatory started in late September, including the building of access roads, staff houses and the erection of the Kédougou Bridge.
The project intends to improve drinking water treatment station and irrigation project to irrigate 90,000 ha of agricultural land downstream in Senegal. The preservation of biodiversity is an absolute priority including preserving the habitat of Chimpanzees and Niokolo - Koba National park.
The construction of the project is expected to be completed in 2027.
