Terna S.A., a subsidiary of GEK TERNA Group, has announced that it has been awarded a contract for construction and refurbishment works at Nikola Tesla Belgrade Airport, as part of a VINCI (51%) – Terna (49%) joint venture. The project budget is EUR262 million (US$298.4 million) and the construction period is five years.
The contract is part of a 25-year concession for the financing, operation, maintenance, extension, and upgrade of the airport, awarded to VINCI Airports in January 2018. VINCI took over operations on 22 December 2018.
The scope of construction works includes a series of infrastructure overhauls, aiming to develop and upgrade the airport’s capacity and operating conditions, enable airlines to offer new routes and increase passenger and cargo traffic in line with Serbia’s economic growth, based on current and future data.
The joint venture will refurbish existing passenger terminal facilities with a total surface area of 15,000 m2 and construct new building facilities with a total surface area of 42,000 m2. Other greenfield elements include a new 3,500m runway, nine taxiways, 2,400 parking spots and 3.5km roadworks for vehicle movement around the airport site.
