The Government of Vietnam has approved the development of Sapa Airport in Lao Cai under the PPP procurement model.
Worth nearly VND7 trillion (US$307 million), the project will be constructed in two phases with the first one to cost around VND4.2 trillion (US$184.2 million). During the first stage, the airport will have an annual capacity of 1.5 million passengers, which will be increased to 3 million in the second phase.
The government will fund 39% of the project, while private investors will cover the rest. The Sapa Airport is situated on a 371 hectares area in Cam Con Commune in Bao Yen District. The aim of the project is to meet the increased demand for air travel and support local socio-economic development.
