The Ministry of transport in Vietnam has given green light to start detailed planning for the development of a domestic airport to serve the Quang Tri province in Gio Quang Commune, Gio Linh District. The airport will be located 7km from Dong Ha city. The airport will be developed on 316 hectares, out of which 87 hectares will be used for civil aviation purposes, 51 hectares for military aviation area, and more than 177 hectares for mixed-use. The airport is expected to serve more than 1 million passengers and 3,100 metric tons of cargo per year.
The procurement of the airport will be carried out on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with an investment value of approximately US$ 346 million. The authority has appointed T&T Group to carry out a pre-feasibility study for the project.
