Victoria to support Indonesia's PPP program

The state of Victoria in Australia has announced that a new Victoria-Indonesia infrastructure partnership which was forged at a Public Private Partnership (PPP) Workshop in Jakarta last week.

Speaking at the workshop as part of a Victorian Government Super Trade Mission to South East Asian, Premier Denis Napthine said Victoria presented a strong and compelling message to the Indonesian Government that Victoria's industry could help deliver Indonesia's  pressing infrastructure needs.

Dr Napthine said Victoria had long been recognised as a global leader in the planning and delivery of PPPs and was well placed to provide expertise to the Indonesian market.

"The Indonesian Government is delivering an ambitious PPP agenda, worth a total of US$50 billion to 2014," Dr Napthine said.

"The Victorian Coalition Government will assist by partnering with leading Victorian businesses and the University of Melbourne to train Indonesian policy makers in PPP delivery.

"Securing this partnership to train Indonesian and work with Government officials is an important first step to building a long-term partnership with the Indonesian Government on infrastructure delivery.

"This collaboration will lead to real business opportunities for Victorian planning, construction, financing, legal and management businesses," Dr Napthine said.

A number of Victorian and Indonesian infrastructure experts attended the workshop, including Sir Rod Eddington, Chairmen of Infrastructure Australia, Paul Finn from ANZ and Dennis Cliche from ConnectEast .

"Indonesia is the largest economy in South East Asia and its gross domestic product has grown at a rate of more than 6 per cent per annum for the past decade," Dr Napthine said.
