Valparaiso port receives two offers for new terminal concession

Chilean port manager Empresa Portuaria Valparaiso (EPV) yesterday, 27 March 2013, received two offers for Valparaiso terminal 2 concession.

The offers came from:

  • OHL Concesiones, a unit of Spanish construction company OHL, and
  • A consortium led by Chilean shipping and terminal operator Empresas Navieras, in partnership with Besalco and Ports America.

The general offers meet the requirements, while the financial offers will be opened on April 2.

According to the schedule set by the Empresa Portuaria de Valparaíso (EPV) for the tender process of Valparaiso terminal 2 concession, March 20th was the last day for firms currently involved in the operation of port terminals to submit their proposals but none of them showed interest.

The company is satisfied with the participation of important local and foreign firms yesterday, its vice president, Sergio Nunez, said.

Although Mitsui and Mitsubishi bought the tender documents they finally did not submit proposals.

The project received no bids in the first attempt to award the project. The total investment required is US$350 million.
