The Government of Uzbekistan and IFC have signed an agreement to use private capital and expertise for the development of new schools in the country. The PPP project will help meet the growing demand for quality infrastructure and lead to improved education outcomes for thousands of children.
Many existing schools operate in shifts, have overcrowded classrooms, and some children have to travel long distances to reach their school. In addition, the majority of schools require rehabilitation and new equipment. IFC will support the government in structuring and tendering a pilot public-private partnership (PPP) project for the finance, design, construction, and maintenance of up to 15 new modern greenfield energy-efficient schools in select regions of Uzbekistan.
The PPP project is expected to provide over 10,000 new school seats, which will improve school capacity and reduce the burden on existing schools.
