USD64 million Brazilian street lighting PPP auctioned

The Conecta Ribeirão Preto Consortium has won an auction for the BRL316 million (US$64 million) public lighting PPP (Public-Private Partnership) in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo state, Brazil.

The Project comprises several components, including the installation of specialized lighting projects in historically and culturally significant areas, the establishment of an Operational Control Center for efficient real-time management of the city's street lighting, and enhancements to customer service such as face-to-face support, an internet site, and a mobile application. These initiatives aim to improve safety for the 1.8 million residents and contribute to the reduction of gender-based violence crimes. 

The 3 new Street Lighting PPP projects are: 

  • Ponta Grossa: includes over 47,000 street lighting points to undergo modernization with a total of BRL60 million (US$12 million) in private investments;
  • Ribeirão Preto: 83,000 street lighting points targeted for modernization, with investments amounting to BRL103 million (US$ 20 million); and
  • Olinda: 26,000 street lighting points to be modernized, with investments totalling BRL31 million (US$ 6 million).

The project was developed with technical advice from the International Finance Corporation(IFC) and Caixa Economica Federal (CAIXA), in close coordination with the Investment Partnership Program (PPI) and the Civil House.
