USD432 million Contract signed for Highway PPP Project in Norway

Skanska has signed a NOK4.6 billion (US$432.13 million) contract with the Norwegian Road Authority (NPRA) to build a stretch of the E18 highway in Oslo, Norway.

The scope of the contract involves the design and construction of a 2.3 km section of the E18 motorway, comprising 2x3 lanes, between Fornebukrysset and Strand. It also includes the creation of a dedicated cycle route along the entire stretch and a new local access road to Fornebu. Additionally, the contract encompasses the construction of the Høvik Tunnel (660 m) and the Gjønnes Tunnel (440 m). Changes to the surrounding local road systems, including pedestrian and cycle paths, are also part of the project. Furthermore, the project aims to achieve environmental certification at the BREEAM Infrastructure level of Excellence.

This project forms a vital component of the extensive E18 Western Corridor initiative, aimed at establishing a new primary highway network stretching from Lysaker in Bærum to Drengsrud in Asker municipality. The upgraded E18 will serve as a substitute for one of Norway's heavily congested road segments, which currently experiences traffic issues, limited public transportation accessibility, and significant noise and air pollution concerns. Scheduled to commence in the summer of 2023, the construction phase of the project is anticipated to conclude by early 2030.
