The National Water Company (NWC) announced that it has awarded a Long-Term Operation and Maintenance (LTOM) contract to Alkhorayef Water and Power Technologies Company (AWPT) for the rehabilitation, operation and maintenance of sewage treatment plants (STPs) in Manfouha, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The project's purpose aligns with the goals of the National Water Strategy, which focuses on attaining environmental sustainability, boosting investments in the water sector, and fostering collaboration with the private sector. The contract pertains to the restoration, operation, and upkeep of three Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) within the Manfouha complex in Riyadh. Collectively, these STPs possess a treatment capacity of 700,000 cubic meters per day.
The Manfouha Treatment Plants play a vital role in treating and purifying wastewater generated from various sources in the city before it is safely released back into the environment. The primary purpose of these treatment plants is to minimize the environmental impact of wastewater discharge and protect public health. The facilities are designed to treat domestic, industrial, and commercial wastewater generated within Riyadh. The treatment process involves various stages to remove contaminants, solids, and pollutants from the wastewater. The treatment process typically includes primary treatment, secondary treatment, and in some cases, tertiary treatment. These processes involve physical, biological, and chemical methods to cleanse the wastewater to acceptable levels before discharge. The treatment plants have a significant capacity to handle a substantial volume of wastewater. This is essential to accommodate the wastewater generated by Riyadh's growing population and urban development. The facilities are equipped with advanced equipment, treatment tanks, aeration systems, and filtration units to carry out the comprehensive wastewater treatment process.
