Vejdirektoratet, the Danish Road Directorate has awarded a DKK2.58 billion (US$345.10 million) contract to a Belgium consortium comprising Besix and MT Højgaard for the development and expansion of the Nordhavn Tunnel in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Under the contract, the selected consortium will be responsible for designing and building a 1.4 Km cut-and-cover road tunnel from Svanevænget across the Svanemøllehavn harbor and out to Nordhavn. The scope of the project also includes local roads and junctions connecting with the tunnel, as well as mechanical and electrical installations and traffic control and monitoring systems.
The project intends to connect Østerbro with outer Nordhavn, improving access to port activities in the area and moving heavy traffic away from the rest of the road network on Østerbro.
The planning and establishment of the construction site at Svanemølle Bay will begin immediately when the contract is signed in mid-September. According to the plan, the tunnel is to be put into use in 2027.
