Webuild has announced that it has signed with Rete Ferroviaria Italiana a EUR1.82-billion (US$1.98 billion) contract to start the executive design and work of the first so-called construction lot of a crossing at the junction of Vicenza as part of a high-speed/high-capacity railway between Verona and Padua in Italy.
The upcoming stretch spans approximately 6.2 km, connecting Altavilla Vicentina to Vicenza Station. 4.8 km of the current line will undergo renewal. This vital project aims to enhance high-speed, regional and freight transportation services along the Milan-Venice route. The project involves the construction of a high-speed/high-capacity railway between Verona and Padua in northern Italy. The total length of the Verona-Padua line is 76.5 km. It is subdivided into three lots: the first between Verona and Bivio Vicenza (44.2 km), the second related to the crossing at Vicenza and the third lot for the Vicenza-Padua section (more than 26 km). Work on the first slot of work began in 2020 and is 35% complete. Works on slot 2 have begun executive design work and preliminary work, and slot 3 is at the final stage of design.
The line will complete the connection between Milan and Venice, allowing safe travel in one of Italy's most industrialized areas. The project will bring Italy closer to the rest of Europe by strengthening the transport system.
Webuild has announced that its subsidiary, Cossi Costruzioni has won a EUR284 million (US$306 million) contract to build a section (Lot 1: Part 1-2) of the Pedemontana Piemontese highway in northern Italy.
