Meridiam, Alberta Transportation and the Tsuut’ina Nation have announced the opening of the Southwest Calgary Ring Road to traffic in Canada.

The PPP project covers the penultimate section of the ring road around Calgary with the aim to improve the safe and efficient movement of goods and people in and around the area. The 31 km road is a new six and eight-lane divided highway with 14 interchanges, 47 bridges, one road flyover, one railway crossing, one tunnel and three river crossings. The project is designed to accommodate traffic volumes projected for the next 30 years, which are estimated to be between 80,000 and 100,000 vehicles per day on some sections.

The total investment in the project is US$1.4 billion. The construction period took nearly 5 years, and now the project goes into operation and maintenance phase for a period of 30 years. Meridiam (32.5%), along with Kiewit (32.5%), Connor, Clark & Lunn (25%) and Ledcor (10%) are investors and partners in Mountain View Partners. The design-build construction consortium is a joint venture between Kiewit, Graham and Ledcor, while the Operation and Maintenance provider is Alberta Highway Services Ltd.
