The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Solomon Islands, to provide grant aid of up to YEN2.011 billion (US$13.89 million) for the Improvement of Kilu’ufi Hospital.
Kilu’ufi Hospital, located in Malaita Province, is classified as a regional general hospital that provides surgical services and other medical procedures to the province. The project involves 3 main aspects:
- Facility construction: the plan includes the establishment of various areas within the Central Clinic, such as the Outpatient area, Imaging area, Surgery area, and Sterilization area. Additionally, the Delivery ward will be improved, comprising the Delivery area and Newborn area. The project also encompasses enhancing the facilities related to electric power supply and water supply, covering a total area of 2,300 m2.
- Equipment: the procurement will focus on essential medical equipment, including X-ray machines, ultrasonic diagnostic equipment, two operating beds, and a high-pressure sterilizer.
- Consulting services: It will involve detailed design work, assistance with the bidding process, construction supervision, and technical training on the management of medical equipment and facilities.
The construction of the facility is projected to be finished within a span of 32 months. Following the delivery of the equipment, there will be a maintenance contract in place for a duration of 2 years to ensure the proper upkeep and functioning of the medical equipment.
