Acciona has won the construction contract for the desalination plant in Casablanca, Morocco.
Acciona, in partnership with Afriquia Gaz and Green of Africa, secured the contract to construct and manage a desalination plant in Casablanca, Morocco, valued at EUR 800 million (USD 872 Million). The plant will have a capacity of up to 548,000 cubic meters of water per day, providing drinking water for a region of nearly seven million people and ensuring irrigation for over 5,000 ha of land. The Casablanca plant, scheduled to be operational in two phases in 2026 and 2030, is part of Morocco's broader plan to expand desalination capacity.
The country aims to increase the number of desalination plants from the current nine (generating 147 million cubic meters of water per year) to 20 by 2030, with a combined capacity of over 1 billion cubic meters. Other desalination plants are planned for Al Jadida and Safi.
