Canada's Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has announced the launch of the Call for Proposals (CFP) of the Critical Minerals Infrastructure Fund (CMIF).
The CMIF aims to address vital infrastructure gaps to facilitate sustainable production of critical minerals and establish connections between resources and markets. With a budget of up to US$1.5 billion spanning seven years, the fund will contribute to initiatives in clean energy, electrification, and transportation, along with other infrastructure projects crucial for the sustainable advancement of Canada's critical minerals. This CFP marks the initial opportunity under CMIF, offering up to US$300 million in contribution funding through two streams: the Pre-construction and Project Development Stream, and the Infrastructure Deployment Stream. These streams enable applicants to request funding of up to US$50 million per project for non-governmental entities and up to US$100 million per project for provincial and territorial governments involved in public projects. The CMIF plays a pivotal role in the Canadian Critical Minerals Strategy, complementing existing support for the critical minerals sector in clean energy and transportation.
