Brazil's Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica (ANEEL) has awarded concession contracts for the construction and maintenance of 7,152km transmission lines located across the country, with a total capacity of 14,819 MVA and representing a total investment of BRL13.2 billion (US$3.52 billion).
ANEEL held an auction for the concessions on 20 December 2018, in which 16 transmission batches were sold at a significant average discount of 46%. Spain’s Neoenergia SA was the biggest buyer, winning four lots. Other buyers include Zopone Engenharia e Comércio Ltda, CPFL Geração de Energia SA, Energisa SA, CYMI Construções e Participações SA, Sterlite Brasil Projetos de Transmissão de Energia SA and Celeo Redes Brasil.
Transmission lines will be built in 13 states across Brazil with a concession period of 30 years. Construction periods will vary from four to five years.
