The Port of Galveston authority has awarded the development of a new port terminal project for cruises to Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCL). The 20-year concession agreement can be renewed for four terms at 10 years each term.
The new facility will cover an area of about 18,500 sqm and will be built in Pier 10 of the port. The project is envisioned to increase the number of passengers it can accommodate by a million from the existing record of about 2 million people.
Currently, the Galveston Port has two terminal cruises located in Pier 22 accommodating the companies Carnival Cruise Lines and Princess Cruises, while the Cruise Terminal 2 is scaled by ships of Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises and Princess Cruises.
