The Hamilton city council in New Zealand and Tainui Group Holdings has raised a US$ 40 million grant for the development of Ruakura Superhub with an inland container depot in the eastern fringe of Hamilton city. The superhub will cover 480 hectares of area, out of which the inland port will be developed in 30 hectares. 17 hectares of land will be developed in the first phase.
The city council will provide US$ 20 million and TGH will provide US$ 20 million for the initial planning and development of roads around the inland port as well as water infrastructure for the hub. With the funding, the superhub is expected to be operational by mid-2022. The Government’s investment will partially fund the critical transportation, bulk infrastructure, and environmental protection work such as the Mangaonua Watercourse and a 10-hectare wetland.
