US$ 1 billion tender launched for Rail Baltica in Estonia

Rail Baltic Estonia has launched an infrastructure tender, valued at up to EUR 932 million (US$ 1 billion), for the construction of the Rail Baltica main line.

The alliance tender will result in two contracts:

  1. The first contract, with an estimated value of EUR 394 million (US$ 428.5 million), will cover the construction of the railway superstructure for the Ülemiste–Pärnu section and the substructure for the Tootsi–Pärnu section.
  2. The second contract, valued at approximately EUR 332 million (US$ 361 million), will encompass the design and construction of the Pärnu–Ikla section, completing the main line.

The high-speed corridor connecting Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to Poland and the European rail network could end up costing as much as EUR 24.8 billion (US$ 27 billion). The original price tag for the 870 km line in 2017 was EUR 5.8 billion (US$ 6.3 billion). Construction of the main line will take place in several stages. The development phase is set to run from Q3 2025 to Q2 2026, followed by the construction phase from 2026 through to the end of 2030.
