The Government of Uruguay might negotiate the agreement with Katoen Natie for the terminal concession at Montevideo Port. The concession involves the development of a second container terminal with an area of approximately 22 hectares and the construction of a second pier with a length of 700 meters and a planned depth of 14 meters along with other investments for port improvements.
Uruguay Government has extended the operational concession with Katoen Natie for further 50 years, ending in 2080. The government might have to face an international trial from the company, regarding the US$455 million concession under bilateral terms between Belgium and Uruguay. Thus, the authority is looking to renegotiate the terms of the contract to avoid the trial.
