The Dunleavy administration has currently resurrected the Knik Arm bridge construction project in Alaska, USA.
The Knik Arm Bridge is a proposed 1.74-mile (2.80 km) bridge across Cook Inlet's Knik Arm to link the two parts of Alaska – Anchorage and the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. The bridge would improve safety by eliminating the need for drivers to ferry across the Knik Arm. This would reduce the risk of accidents and fatalities. It would reduce travel time between Anchorage and the Matanuska - Susitna Borough by up to 30 minutes.
The project has been in the planning stages for many years, but it has been met with opposition from some residents and environmental groups. The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is currently in the process of reviewing public comments on the environmental impact statement and is expected to make a final decision on the project in 2024.
