Let us share with you some of the most relevant appointments within the infrastructure industry in a global scale.
Strabag names Thomas Birtel next CEO
Dr. Thomas Birtel served as the Chairman of the Management Board at STRABAG AG and has also been its Member of the Management Board since 2002. Dr. Birtel has been a Member of Management Board at Strabag SE. since January 01, 2006. Dr. Birtel's career began with Klöckner & Co in 1983 and was employed with it until 1989, lastly as division manager of the accounting department of Klöckner Industrie-Anlagen GmbH. From 1989 to 1996, he worked for Sweden's Frigoscandia Group, initially as head of the Germany, then as head of the CentralEuropean region. Dr. Birtel joined STRABAG Group in 1996 as a member of the Management Board of STRABAG Hoch- & Ingenieurbau AG. He serves as Member of advisory board of Deutsche bank AG and HDI-Gerling Industrie Versicherung AG. Dr. Birtel graduated with a degree in economics from the Ruhr-University Bochum in 1978 and completed doctorate in 1982.
Robert M. Park to take on new role of ACCIONA President, Canada
Robert M. Park, President of ACCIONA's Infrastructure division in Canada since 2007 and Area Director for North America, has been appointed President, ACCIONA Canada, a new, non-executive role in which he will represent, support and promote the company's core businesses in the country.
Bob Park joined ACCIONA in 1993 in Hong Kong, where he was General Manager, Project Director and Area Director, International Construction. He moved to Canada in 2007 to establish the head office for ACCIONA Infrastructure in Canada.
In his new role, Mr Park will be responsible for deepening ACCIONA's institutional links with government entities, financial institutions and business partners in Canada. He brings more than 30 years' experience in the development and management of infrastructure projects in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and North America.
Purificación Torreblanca appointed President, ACCIONA Infrastructure in Canada
Purificación Torreblanca, one of ACCIONA's top engineers in Spain, will move to Canada to lead the company's infrastructure team. Last year, the College of Civil Engineers in Andalusia, Spain's largest region, voted Ms Torreblanca "engineer of the year". Ms Torreblanca joined ACCIONA in 1994 and has been the Director of ACCIONA Infrastructure in Andalusia since 2006. She holds an engineering degree, an MBA and a PDD from the Instituto de Empresa, one of Spain's top business schools.
George Zakem appointed Managing Director, Northleaf Capital Partners. Olivier Laganière joins as associate
Northleaf has expanded its investment team with the appointment of George Zakem as Managing Director and co-head of its infrastructure program. George joined Northleaf in 2011 as a Senior Advisor after a decade at the Macquarie Group, where he participated in some of the most prominent and successful infrastructure transactions in Canada and was most recently head of the firm's Public-Private Partnership (PPP) team in Toronto. Previously, George held senior positions with TD Securities in the Government and Infrastructure Projects group and worked as a project management engineer.
Northleaf also recently welcomed Olivier Laganière as an Associate. Olivier joined Northleaf's Toronto office from the Infrastructure Finance Group at RBC Dominion Securities. He was previously with the Macquarie Group's infrastructure team in Toronto.
Parsons Brinckerhoff has named Greg Kelly to the newly created position of global Chief Operating Officer (COO).
He was responsible for all planning, design, strategic consulting and construction services within the transportation market, including highways, bridges, transit and rail, aviation, and ports and marine. He is actively involved as a project executive on some of the firm's largest infrastructure assignments including those for clients in California; Washington, D.C.; Texas; and New York. He has also served on the firm's Operations Leadership Committee for the past three years.
Mr. Kelly received an M.S. degree in civil engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and a B.S. from Temple University.Clifford Eby succeeds Mr. Kelly as President of Parsons Brinckerhoff's Americas Transportation operating company
Mr. Eby was previously a Senior Vice President in charge of Parsons Brinckerhoff's Technical Excellence Centers in the Americas Transportation company and also supported the firm's strategic efforts in rail and infrastructure markets, particularly high-speed rail. He has nearly 40 years of experience in the industry, with specific expertise in rail safety, finance and economic regulatory practices, transportation policy, and rail infrastructure program design.
Alexey Bnatov Appointed as CEO of the Northern Capital Highway
The Board of Directors of LLC Northern Capital Highway appointed Alexey Bnatov the CEO of the Northern Capital Highway. Alexey Bnatov will be responsible for strategic development and general managing of the projects within the Consortium. Mr Bnatov has significant experience in building and managing business units in major Russian and international companies.
Alexey Bnatov has been CEO of AGRO-Invest since 2010. Before this, he held senior positions at Greif and AkzoNobel. Alexey graduated fr om the Moscow State Institute of International Relations in 1982.
Northern Capital Highway (NCH) consortium has been named the preferred bidder in the tender for the right to construct the central part of the Western High-Speed Diameter (WHSD) and subsequently, operate the entire stretch of the toll road.
Credit Agricole-CIB Names Danielle Baron to Head Project Finance Latin America GroupCrédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, Crédit Agricole Group's corporate and investment banking arm, has announced the appointment of Danielle Baron as head of the Project Finance NIP Latin America Group. She was also named a Managing Director, and will be headquartered in New York City.
With more than 16 years of structured finance experience, Ms. Baron was most recently in London, where she participated in financings involving infrastructure and power projects throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Ms. Baron joined Credit Agricole CIB in 2008, having previously worked at HSBC. During the course of her banking career, she has been involved in financing numerous projects in Australia, Europe and Latin America.
Iain Macleod joins Icon Infrastructure
Iain has two decades of corporate finance and infrastructure experience. He joins from Deutsche Bank where he spent over 11 years in roles including Head of Transportation and Infrastructure for EMEA and Head of M&A for Asia. Iain has led a number of landmark transactions including DP World's £5.2 billion acquisition of P&O, the US$5.5 billion IPO of Hutchison Ports Trust, the US$4.2 billion IPO of DP World and the recent US$1.4 billion sale of Maersk LNG.
Arup announced Principal promotions
The following six Arup people have been promoted to Principal:
Rich Coffin - San Francisco: Rich has over 21 years of civil engineering experience in large infrastructure and site development project management and design. He joined Arup in 2007 as an Associate and is currently Project Manager for the Fresno to Palmdale segment of the California High Speed Rail.
Raj Daswani - San Francisco: Raj joined Arup in 2002 as a mechanical engineer, and has 17 years' experience in multidisciplinary engineering design and project management.
David Farnsworth - New York: David joined Arup in 1999 as a civil/structural engineer with a wide range of experience in the design and management of projects both locally and globally.
Ellen Greenberg - San Francisco: Ellen joined Arup in 2010 and has 25 years' experience in the urban planning field.
Mark Roche - New York: Mark joined Arup in 1989, and has worked in the UK, Europe, Asia, and the Americas on a wide range of complex multidisciplinary bridge, rail and highway projects where innovation and constructability have been key issues.
Jeff Tubbs - Boston: Jeff joined Arup in 2000 and currently leads the Boston Consulting Practice.
