The Province of Cavite in the Philippines has received an unsolicited proposal from the SPIA Development Consortium for the development of Sangley Point International Airport (SPIA). The SPIA Development consortium comprises Yuchengco Group of Companies, MacroAsia, Samsung C&T, Munich Airport International, Cavitex Holdings, and Arup Group.
The US$10.9 billion proposal was submitted after the authority failed to award the project for a second time. The consortium proposes to develop the airport infrastructure in different phases. In phase 1A, the new runway will be constructed at a cost of US$2.3 billion facilitating services for 15 million passengers. During Phase 1B and 2 further development of facilities will be undertaken to boost the airport's capacity to 75 million passengers per annum.
