Ministry of Infrastructure in Ukraine has announced plans to develop a new airport in Transcarpathia. The government is ready to invest UAH 3 to 4 billion (US$ 105 to 140 million) for the airport. The new airport will provide a more convenient passage for modern airlines. The only existing airport in the region of Zakarpattia Oblast is located near Uzhgorod, which is too close to the border of Slovakia and the majority of the time working of the airport depends on the Slovakia government.

To eliminate this need the ministry has approved UAH 30 million (US$ 1.05 million) for the pre-design and design work for the construction of a new airfield as well as to find the optimal location for the new airport.
