Birmingham Highways Limited (BHL) in the UK is planning to relaunch the tendering process for the road network PFI.
The concession involves the operation and maintenance of 2,500 km of road and 5,000 km of footways, as well as 846 structures, three tunnels, 94,000 street lighting columns, 76,000 highway trees and the city’s traffic control system.
The new PFI contract will be simplified and will have just 28 key performance indicators (KPIs) instead of 600 KPIs proposed in the original tender. The city plans to launch tendering process in February 2022, which will be conducted for nine months. The PFI contractor will provide services from August 2023 to June 2035.
