The UK Government, through Homes England, has announced a GBP10 million (US$13.23 million) funding to build up to 1,500 new homes in Liverpool’s iconic Festival Gardens. The funds come from the government’s GBP450 million (US$595.14 million) Local Authority Accelerated Construction (LAAC) scheme.
The funds will be used by the Liverpool City Council to complete the pre-construction works in the site and fast-track the development of the project. The Council is expecting to finish the construction of the new home units by 2022. The development of residential buildings in a central location of the city has been planned before but was not realized due to lack of funding.
Festival Garden is an iconic spot in Liverpool, the site comprises the publicly owned accessible gardens known as Festival Gardens (approx 25 acres), the Southern Grasslands (approx 47 acres) and a development zone (approx 28 acres).
