The Government of Uganda is expecting to conclude the selection of the preferred bidder for the Kampala - Jinja expressway project by the end of 2019.
A senior member of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) reportedly disclosed the information, adding that construction is scheduled to begin in 2020.
With an estimated value of about US$1.5 billion, the expressway project will connect the Ugandan capital Kampala with Jinja, an industrial town in the east of the country. The selected private partner will design, build and operate the road for 30 years.
Last month, UNRA prequalified four bidding teams for the project, led by China Communications Construction Company, China State Construction Engineering Corporation, Strabag and Vinci Concessions, respectively.
