The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has rejected a late bid from China Railway 17th Bureau Group for the 77km Kampala-Jinja expressway project. The US$1.1 billion infrastructure project will link the capital of Uganda, Kampala, to Jinja.
The bid was submitted a month after the tender for the project had closed, with UNRA already having completed a public opening of statements of qualifications submitted by eight companies/consortia. The Ministry of Works and Unra have since shortlisted four consortia to proceed to submit final bids for the project, as announced in December 2018.
The Chinese company claimed that it could complete the project ahead of schedule according to UNRA's timelines.
