The Members of the Parliament in Uganda have expressed dissent over the financing of the planned reconstruction of the Kampala -Jinja expressway development.
The government plans to fund the construction of the expressway under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. MPs argued that the PPP model will delay the construction of the road project furthering the traffic condition in the region.
In November 2018, the African Development Bank (ADB) has approved the sovereign loan of US$229.5 million to Uganda to finance phase one of the Kampala-Jinja Expressway project. The 85-km road will link Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and South Sudan with Kenya’s Mombasa maritime port.
