Uganda Advances Development of Information Technology Business Processing Outsourcing Park

The National Information Technology Authority has announced that it is in the process of developing an Information Technology(IT) Business Processing Outsourcing(BPO) Park in Uganda.

The 16.38-Acre ICT Park Overview:

  • High-End Software Lab & Data Center;
  • Direct Employment: 35,000 (including 10,000 consultants outside the park);
  • Indirect Employment: 100,000 (Legal, Accounting, Marketing, Security, Catering, Commuting, etc.);
  • Firms: Approx. 100 (80 MSMEs & startups);
  • Cumulative Business Turnover: USD 60 billion over 30 years;
  • Revenue to GoU from SPC: USD 1.45 billion over 30 years;
  • Potential Social Infrastructure Development;
  • Catalyst for the Digital/Knowledge Economy and e-Governance;
  • Stimulating ICT Start-up Culture;
  • FDI Projection: USD 200 million in initial years;
  • Emphasis on Capacity Building and Technology Transfer; and
  • Branding Uganda as an ICT Destination.

This initiative aims to attract multinational ICT companies to invest in Uganda, fostering ICT industrial development, generating income, and creating employment for the youth. Aligned with Uganda Vision 2050, the goal is to establish cities with advanced ICT/BPO parks and software incubation centers. The government, focusing on a knowledge-based economy, will collaborate with entities like the Uganda Investment Authority, Uganda Free Zones Authority, Urban Authorities, and Local Governments to implement IT/BPO parks as part of its vision.
