Two projects included in Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) development plan: Map Thaput deep-sea port project and the high-speed rail project linking Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang and U-tapao airports with the estimated investment of THB 55,400 (USD 1,690) and THB 225,000 (USD 7,202.25) respectively are scheduled for signing with the preferred bidders this month.
Bangkok-Eastern Economic Corridor High-speed rail PPP project involves the development of a 220km high-speed rail line, which will link Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports in Bangkok, and U-Tapao, a joint civil-military airport built during the Vietnam War which serves the Eastern Economic Corridor, an area that encompasses the provinces of Rayong, Chachoengsao and Chonbur. Completion is scheduled for 2023. The PPP contract term will be 50 years, including five years of construction and 45 years of operation and maintenance. The winning consortium for this project is lead by Charoen Pokphand Group (CP). The consortium includes China Railway Construction Corporation, Bangkok Expressway and Metro, Italian-Thai Development, Ch. Karnchang and Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corp for Transport and Urban Development. EEC has already ordered the State Railway of Thailand to deliver land plots to the winning consortium to expedite construction.
Map Thaput deep sea port PPP project involves the development of a deep sea mega-port located near Pattaya, along the eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand. The project covers an area of nearly 435 acres. The winning consortium for this project is PTT Global represented by PTT Global Chemical and Gulf Energy Development.
Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand said that only these two of the total five projects under the EEC will be settled within this government. The other three will be handled by the new government.
