Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency has commissioned WGP contractor to open the road to traffic by the end of March 2022 on the Transmission Gully motorway PPP project in New Zealand.
The authority says the completion of a huge amount of work on the road over summer has brought the project to a stage when it is safe for public use. To support the earlier road opening, Waka Kotahi has agreed to defer a number of quality assurance tests that are required under the contract, allowing them to be finished after the road is open. Transmission Gully is a 27-km motorway with four new interchanges, that cuts through geologically and geotechnically challenging and steep terrain.
Wellington Gateway Partnership (WGP) is formed by a private group of financiers and contractors, who are responsible for the design, construction, finance and operation & maintenance of the project with the concession period of 25 years after the construction is over. WGP includes Pacific Partnerships Pty (CIMIC Group's project finance arm), Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) and InfraRed Capital Partner Ltd, in addition to sub-contractors, CPB Contractors and HEB Constriction, and Ventia as an operation & maintenance operator.
