Transit Wireless, a BAI Communications company, has announced the fiber optic network expansion partnership in with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) in the New York City Subway, USA.
The network expansion will double the size of Transit Wireless' 5G fiber network, including 418 track miles and up to 20 separate river crossings. The network will be designed to serve more than 10 million users a day. The fiber optic system will expand to private enterprises, universities, hospitals and commercial facilities. The network will also allow mobile operators to offer their customers enhanced data and voice services underground and throughout the New York City subway.
Transit Wireless' network investment to build the infrastructure is in progress, and the planning and design phases are underway. The project also includes expanding the Wi-Fi network to all 191 surface metro stations and 21 Staten Island rail stations.
