Water Authority’s Board of Directors has approved the transfer of ownership from Orion Water Partners to Aberdeen Standard Investments of Carlsbad Desalination Plant located in Carlsbad, California. The transfer will not alter day-to-day operations at the Carlsbad facility or create a fiscal impact to the Water Authority. The transfer was announced in June and was approved on October 24.
The Carlsbad Desalination Plant is the largest, most technologically advanced and energy-efficient seawater desalination plant in the USA. Each day, it delivers nearly 50 million gallons (56,000 acre-feet per year (AFY)) of fresh, desalinated water to San Diego County – enough to serve approximately 400,000 people and accounting for about one-third of all water generated in the county.
