The Town of Riverhead has begun collecting soliciting input from the general public for a mixed-use development of the new Town Square in Riverhead, USA. It includes the community engagement website, where the local public can learn about the project and give feedback and suggestions. The public input process will continue for 8 weeks.
In addition, the town is planning to submit grant applications for federal and state funding by the end of May 2021, as it seeks a US$10 million state grant. The public-private partnership is a preferable arrangement for the project's realization.
The project will replace two obsolete town-owned department stores with a new, public Town Square, which will include zoning for a mixed-use concept with retail space on the first floor and apartments above the stores. A second element of the project will connect the Town Square to the riverfront. As envisioned, these public amenities will be activated with programming on a regular basis.
