The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) has reported that three bidders prequalified for the final stage, presenting technical and economic proposals for the construction, operation and maintenance of a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Puerto Maldonado, Madre de Dios, Peru.

The prequalified entities include Intercontinental Technology, SAPI de CV, along with the consortia comprising Saneamiento Puerto Maldonado (BTD Capital 12, SL and Calare Investments, SL) and Copasa-Almar (Sociedad Anónima de Obras y Servicios, COPASA, Sucursal del Perú and Almar Water Servicios España, SL). The project's award is anticipated in Q2 of 2024 and encompasses the construction, rehabilitation, expansion, operation, and maintenance of municipal wastewater collection, treatment, and final disposal systems in Puerto Maldonado.

The projected investment stands at approximately PEN 365 million (US$ 97.7 million), with a concession term of 23 years under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, co-financed by the Ministry of Housing, Construction, and Sanitation (MVCS). The initiative aims to address deficiencies in potable water and sewage infrastructure, deliver an effective and sustainable wastewater treatment and disposal service, facilitate the decontamination of the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers, and positively impact the health and well-being of 120,000 residents.
