The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Labour party has voted to ask the Labour-run Haringey Council to cancel the project. 21 Haringey councillors requested that the NEC intervene. The project is opposed by trade unions and may local Labour party members. However this move is unprecedented and controversial - the NEC has never ordered a local Labour council to change policy before. The council is currently waiting for the results of a judicial review of its plans. It will now hold mediation meetings with the aim of reaching a resolution regarding the project amongst the councillors
