The Federal Government of Nigeria has given the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) permission to procure hybrid solar systems through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP). The systems will provide affordable and economically rewarding electricity to rural areas.
According to the Director-General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), the commission has issued compliance certificates for the Outline Business Case and Full Business Case for the project. These certificates mean that the REA's proposal for the project has been assessed as economically viable and of huge benefit to the country.
The REA will now commence implementation of a pilot long-term PPP. On successful completion of the pilot, massive rollout will occur nationwide.
