Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and PTT Global have started a feasibility study for the development of a floating storage re-gasification unit (FSRU) in the Gulf of Thailand. Both entities signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in May 2020 for the project. The plant will have an annual capacity of 5 million tonnes for imported liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The plant is expected to provide gas supply to EGAT's power plant in Surat Thani's Phunphin district which is under construction.
